THE AUCKLAND MURDER.
FURTHER DETAILS OF THE CRIME. | NO ARREST MADE YET. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, March 15. Further particulars concerning the murder of Air. A. E. Braithwaite, postmaster at Ponsonby, who was shot dead in his house on .Saturday night, show that shortly In-fore S p.m. a neighbour heard two sharp reports, such as are made by revolver shots. She had recently had a new boiler installed in the kitchen stove and thought the sounds Were the cracking of the new boiler plates. She also heard an indefinite kind of noise, as if some person had received a fright and cried out a little.
Other people in the vicinity distinctly heard two shots fired and, thinking they came fron\ Point Erin Park, took no notice.
it is believed that the murderer had some knowledge of deceased's domestic arrangements. " Evidently he watched the movements of Braithwaite who, if he left the ; ist ollice at 7.35 could only have been in the house for a minute or two before the murderer arrived. Deceased had been in the service about 40 years, and was almost due ,to retire on superannuation. He was a careful and conscientious officer. Prior to his appointment as postmaster at Ponsonby lie was stationed at Te Awainutn and Rotorua.
The police are actively engaged upon the case, which is a particularly difficult one. So far no arrest is reported. Auckland, Last Night. Up to the present no arrest has been made in connection with the Ponsonby murder,
It is unlikely that the inquest will be resumed for some days.
