THE HAWKE CUP. MAXAWATU v, POVERTY BAY. By' Telegraph.—Preß3 Association. Gisborne, Last Night. The Hawke Cup mutch, Munawatu v. Poverty Bay, was commenced in tine weather The wicket was good. When the day's play finished throe innings had beau completed. Mnnawatu's first innings produced 108 (<>reer 34, Mellar 21). MeLachlan and Scholium each took Ave wickets for 41 runs. Manawatu'ts second innings brought 103 (C. Hudder 23, Harrison 19, Berlin ton 17). McLaclilan took six wickets for 01; Scholium, three for 37.
Poverty Bay were dismissed la their first Imings for 211 (MoLachlan 16, Drake 10, Pere 14). Greer took four wickets for 22; Harrison, three ior 10; McVicar, two for 29.
NEW PLYMOUTH MATCH. GOLFERS r. CRICKETERS. A very enjoyable match, which afforded a good deal of amusement amongst the players, took place on the Boys' High School grounds on Saturday afternoon between teauns representing the New Plymouth golfers and the local cricketers. The golfers batted first and compiled 08, only of the side managing ,to get Into doubfa. , Bottrllt's • score of 22 included 0 , <0) six off Johnston. Clarke and. Johnston secured an equal number of wickets each. The cricketers opened with Morrison and Eggleston, who made a stancr which took a lot of the sting out of the bowling. The partnership wab hard to dissolve break not being effected until 55 tuds had been made, including a six, which the Tikorangi man hit clean on to one of the school buildings. Monleath filled the gap, and he also placed a ball from Bottrill right on to the roof of the school, The golfers score was passed before the second wicket fell, and after that the crlcketors played more or less loosely, though the score was carried to 152 before the side was dismissed, thus leaving them winners by 54 runs.
