The savings of a lifetime had been entrusted to that firm, and, with the exception of about £IOO at the bank, Sir Arthur Sullivan's whole fortune disappeared with that big financial disaster. "But, unmoved by the calamity," says his biographer, "lie conducted lolanthe that night as though nothing had happened." And the next day he began again to make provisipn for the possible rainy days of the future.
