CHAUTAUQUA.

A largely attended meeting of the New Plymouth committee of the Chautauqua Association (Incorporated) of New Zealand was held in the Soldiers' Club last night, when reports of the various committes were received. Miss Newman, one of.the directors, attended the meeting and completed the arrangements for the opening of the season on Friday week. The tent to be erected is much larger than the one in use last year and will provide seating accommodation for 1500. It was decided to hold the next meeting of guarantors and committee next Tuesday at the Sold:'<rs' Club, when the final arrangements will be completed. As a certain amount of misconception exists regarding the organisation, it is as well that the public should realise that Chautauqua is now a New Zealand organisation, managed in New Zealand, and the funds are controlled in New Zealand. Any profits that might accrue from the tours remain with the New Zealand Chautauqua (Inc.), and local committees' shares of profit remain with the committees, and are used entirely for the furtherance of the educational objects of Chautauqua.
