In (he House of Commons, replying to Mr. Bennett, who enquired with reference to the recent riots in Fiji, in which New Zealand.troops wore stated to have Jired on rioters, Colonel L. C. Amery (Under-Secretary for the Colonies) said the only ease of firing was when a crowd was engaged in wrecking bridges and threatened to overwhelm ti small body of Fiji police. Some revolver shots were fired, and one striker was killed. Colonel Amery added that on the whole the strike was conducted in an orderly manner. He saw no reason for interference, as the strike had now terminated. A Government Commission, including Indians, was enquiring into the alleged grievances.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
