OVERSEAS SETTLEMENT.
OPPORTUNITY FOR EX-SOLDIERS. ATTRACTION OF AUSTRALIA. Br Triejripb—Press Assn.—Copyr'sM London, March 4. Mr. Christopher Turner, the English authority on small holding*, is drafting his report on his visit to the Dominions. He considers Australia offers the greatest opportunities of all for the settlement of ex-soldiers. He favors a group of settlers on 20 acre holdings in irrigation areas and 100 acre holdings in the rain belt areas. The system of supervision should be greatly strengthentd and the organisation improved, particularly the marketing arrangemats. He considers the scheme of settling es-soldiera on grazing lands imimctieable.
fte reeognUes that finance is the root Jjkulty of the whole problem, but effort* are on foot to impress the Impafial Government with the urgency of thV matter. The expenditure will eventually prove economical, for every Englishman settling outside the Empire represents a loss in production of £SOO rttrly. More generous treatment by the overseas Governments and the closer cooperation of the Imperial Government Aft essential.
