MOA ROAD BOARD.

• MONTHX7. MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa. Road Board was held an Saturday. Presenrt: Messrs. A. Corkill (chairman), B. Stuart, J. B. Simpson, Hair, T. Bowler, A. Cowley, Lyons and J. Hunter. The chairman reported that crushing was commenced on Everlett Road, but, owing to ths net weather and Uis, breaking of the crusher Jaw, was not progressing as quickly as could be desired. The broken Jaw had been replaced, but It would be necessary *« order a new one. The loss of time through wet weather had been very hard on both men and teams, and they had been put on l getting out boulders. Pit metal had been carted to Kalmata North, and boulders '.o Dudley. Water-tabling has been done on Brlatol East and other roads, and twelve yards of maintenance metal dumped. Tot To! Road had been completely blocked by slips, but was now open for traffic. Engineer Whltslde will take up his duties about the 20th. Mr. Lloyd, the new clerk, waa unable to take up his duties before the first week In April. The committee appointed to fix up Vldlng boundaries unanimously agreed to four ridings, and nine memberstwo In the north, one In the east, three In the south and three In the west. He had Inspected the traction engine offered to the Board at Waltara, also another engine, and Mr. J. Bowler had been asked to report on both. As the Board would cense to exist on March 81, owing to being imerged Into the Inglewood County, It would he necessary to hold a special clearing up meeting. He trusted the new council would bring the roads Into line with-those of South Taroitakl. He could not see how It was possible to keep the main roads In the Moa Siding open during the winter.

The engineer reported that the work* in hand were progressing as satisfactorily as could be expected under the adverse weather conditions and the shortage of cement. He was prepared to call tenders for other works, the Board, had on hand as soon as the Board was ready to go on with the work. CORRESPONDENCE. On resuming, it was resolved that the Board purchase for cash the engine at Waitara placed under offer to them by Air. Holland, subject to an inspection of the boiler by the Inspector. • The settlers of Richmond Road petitioned the Board asking for repairs to their road. —lt was resolved to depute Messrs Corkill and Stuart to interview the settlers on that road re providing free labor, power being glvea to subsidise tho work to the extent of the balance standing to the credit of the road. Mr. J. Sutherland Waited on the Board asking whether they would assist the Borough Council in the erection of a public memorial to local men who had fallen In the late war, and whether the Board would be represented at ii meeting called for the purpose of discussing same.—Resolved that the Board Is not in favor of any proposal of erecting a moi;ument o for fallen soldiers In the Inglewood Cemetery, but would be agreeable to erecting a suitable memorial In a public place. Oil tlis motion of Mr. J. Lyon it was resolved that 20 per cent be added tentatively to the sale price of concrete pipes, till tests have btin taken of the increased cost. Mr. Bailey was appointed driver of the dump truck at a salary to start with of £4 per week. Mrs. E. H. Tarry's offer of £5 per year for pipe site was accepted, subject to the Board first cutting weeds on same. The chairman was empowered to procure a wliare for the engine-driver. It was resolved that all outstanding rates be placed In the hands of Ore Board's solicitor. The chairman moved that this Boord protests against the re-imposttion of the wheel tax by tho Taranakl County Council, as this district will not benefit by the tax, and that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Prime Minister.—Carried.
