ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION.
DR. COPE'S EXPEDITION. By Telejrrapli.—Press Assn.— Copyright. London, March 2. Dr. J. L. Cope, in an interview, said he was greatly surprised at the Geographical Society's statement, particularly in view of the Society's letter in April, 1919, stating that the committee approved the general objects of the expedition, but in view of its ambitious nature was unable to recommend the council's specific approval until the proposed staff, especially the names of the Bailing master and head of the scientific staff were known, but hoped that when the plans were mature a more specific endorsement could be gfven. Dr. Cope proceeded that since then nothing had been heard until a fortnight ago. Meanwhile the expedition had made headway and l most of the officers had been selected, including Messrs Joyce and Wilkins. Dr. Cope deeply resents the innuendo on ]m leadership, which he has had no opportunity of defending. Nevertheless he is determined to proceed and says that the arrangements are progressing splendidlv.
