TIES OF EMPIRE.
VALUE OF THE NAVY. LOYALTY OF THE DOMINIONS. By Teleg»Ph>-Press Assn.—Copyright, London, March 2. Lord Jellicoe, in a message to the Dominions appearing in the March issue of the United Empire, says:— "On my return from the Dominions, whilst the memory •of the wonderful welcome given to the officers and men of the New Zealand as representing the Royal Navy is still fresh, I should like to say how deeply I appreciate the extraordinary kindness extended to us. Everywhere the people literally took us to their hearts and homes. "Certain features of the tour are outstanding. First, the depth of loyalty to the King and Empire and the love ' of the Motherland; second, the great promise the Dominions bold out for the future, which, combined with the virility of the people, should ensure the prosperity of all who cast their lot with these far-flung portions of the Empire." • Lord Jellieoe continued that no one could be aware, as they were, of the efforts which were made to bring home 4o the children of the Dominions their dependence upon sea power for their security and development, without realising that these efforts must inevitably lead, to a fuller understanding of the part the navy had taken in the building up of the Empire, and must take if the Empire is to be retained.
"I think," he*, said, "the people of the Dominions will agree with me that one of the strongest ties of Empire is the Boval Navy, whether that navy is maurtaired solely by Gf&t Britain, or whether there are constituent portions which, whilst they have their home in Dominion waters, act in the closest cooperation with the Mother Countrv "- Aua.-NZ.
