DANGER OF POPPIES.
AN OAMAEU PROTEST. By Telegraph,—Press Association. , Oamaru, March 6. The introduction of poppy seed for sentimental reasons into the Dominion from France, where it is> declared a noxious weed, was strongly deprecated at the County Council meeting to-day. It was stated that, the seeds planted in a few gardens in Australia had now become a universal pest, and that the poppy was a particular menace to wheat. The following resolution was carried: "That this council protests against the introduction of the poppy as a noxious weed, and that the Government take such steps as may be deemed necessary, to protect agriculturists from a pernicious weed over which the farmers of France and Belgium have no control.
