The fact that no consistent examination was made during the full period under which soldiers were being discharged from the Expeditionary Force for trench mouth (Vincent's disease) is now causing come inconveniences to a number of soldiers upon whom the disease is recurring. Many patients were treated in the army for trench mouth, and are nqw suffering from a repetition of the trouble; on applying to the Defence Department for treatment, however, they are informed that the Government can take no responsibility whatever for cases in which the disease recurs. The Defence Department states that once a man is treated and cured, no r.eurrence is possible except as the direct result of negligence in the care of the mouth. It is known that numbers of members of the Expeditionary Force who have suffered from the disability have never had a test taken as to whether they were rid of it
