COMPETITIONS.
The competitions proved very Interesting, and there was some good jumping witnessed, especially in the Champion Huntere' Competlt'on and the Steeplechase event. In the former event, which carried a first prlzo of £SO as well as a handsome challenge nip, there was keen competition, the judgo (Mr. Selby) giving the award to Mr. Climle's Sandy who. ridden by Mr. Anstls, cleared his fences perfectly. Mac, now owned by Mr. Simpson, of Marton, and formerly owned by Mr. O'Neill, of Urenui, who won the event In 1916, also put Up a fine round; indeed, a section of the public thought he should have been placed first, but the judge stated that the competition was hunters' style. Sandy scored nearly full points, having good hunters' style, also good manners between the jump 3 which he approached nicely. Mac, on the other hand, jumped too big and reefed and pulled between the jumps. D. Stockman, the rider of Mac, displayed distinctly unsportsmanlike qualities In refusing to -parade with the winners when ordered by the judge and riding off the arena. For this he was not allowed to ride in any other events. The steoplechase event was won bv Mae. who was ridden by Mr. Mitchell Hunters' champion jumping competition, eacli horse to carry not less than 12st. First £SO and challenge cup presented by Messrs.
