INGLEWOOD.
TOWN IMPROVEMENTS. (From Our Own Correspondent). Quite a noticeable feature amongst the buildings in the business part of Inglewcod is the new garage now nearly completed that Mr. Newton King has had built at the back of his auction mart on the property facing Cutfield street, nearly opposite the Town Hall The size of the building, 75 by CO feet, with 10ft walls in concrete, so far as the north, south and west are concerned and the completeness of its equipment for the work of such a place, as well as the fact that the east wall has been built of timber in view of possible extension later on, all give evidence of the faith Mr. King has in the stability of the district and town, and in the probable rapid growth of the motor trade generally. As above stated, the building is 75ft by 66ft, this being divided into one main stand, 75ft by 44ft, within which are placed the office, 14ft by 14ft, and ladies' waiting room, 12ft by Bft. Near the west entrance to this is situated a turntable, which will greatly simplify the handling of cars brougli' in. Other divisions are store room, where duplicate parts of every kind will be kept, and so arranged that anyone can be got at without delay. This is 22ft by 20ft; workshop 40ft by 21ft, and vulcanising from 22ft by Bft. Electricity will be used as motive power for the machinery, and a Peltoh wheel installed for charging the batteries. Light is provided by six windows and eight skylights, and by ft complete system of electric lights. The office is so placed that the person in charge there lias a clear view of what is going on through the glass sides of his retreat. So far as can be done provision has been made to meet all probable, and most possible, contingencies of the motor business that may occur and to give Inglewood conSMence In the knowledge that she has one of the best equipped and most up-to-date garages in Taranaki, and the borough on the addition of an important structure to its existing buildings. The roof, which is of corrugated iron on sarking, with felt over the workshop qr south side, is carried on a frame of oregon pine Mr. A. E. Surrey, of Inglewcod, to whom the building was intrusted, ia to be con-' gratulated on the creditable way in which he has carried it out.
