DEFINITION OF MONROEISM. VOICE IN EUROPEAN AFFAIRS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright, Received March 3, 7.55 p.m. Washington, March 2. The Senate rejected, by 43 votes to 34, a Democratic, substitute for the Republican .definition of Monroeism. This reservation was not changed from the last session. Senator H. C. Lodge (Leader of the Republicans) pointed out that the British delegation at the Peace Conference hehl. that Jlonroeism in future would he interpreted by the League of Nations and not by the United States. Senator G. M. Hitchcock (Leader of the Democrats) moved a resolution replacing the [Republican reservations safeguarding American rights in domestie issue- The motion was defeated. The adoption of the Republican reservation safeguarding American rights is forecasted. The Senate adopted the original lodge reservation, by which the UnitedStates reserves to itself the right to decide what are domestic questions, not subject to the jurisdiction of the League of Nations.—Aus.-N.Z.
