THE PRINCE OF WALES.
VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. THE MILITARY ARRANGEMENTS. The arrangements in connection with the vwit of the Prince of Wales to New Plymouth on the morning of April 23 were advanced a further stage yesterday afternoon, when Brigadier-Gen-oral Melville, CB„ C-M.G.; D.5.0., officei commanding the Wellington military district, conferred with the Mayor (Mr, Jas. Clarke) in regard to the military preparations. There were also present at the conference Lieut.-Col. Evans and Captain MacDiarmid (representing th« Returned Soldiers' Association), Lieut Andrew, V.C. (adjutant at Now Ply. mouth), and the borough manager (Mr. Fv T_ llellriiiger), General Melville said that he would be accompanying the Prince during his v;nit in the Wellington district, and lie desired to co-operate with the. local authorities in drawing np tentative military arrangements. He suggested that nn the arrival of the I'rince the welcoming officials should be confined to tin Mayor, while nn armed guard of territorials would be provided to act as a "linrd of honor. After liie public welcome General Melville promised that the Prince should walk through the beauty of which he thought would delight tlirt. Prince—and proceed to the Boys' High School, where it was proposed to hold a group athletic meeting in which territorials, cadets, scouts, and riflemen, would take part. The Prince would spend about a quarter of an hour here, during which time he could see the cadcfa, and the High School cadets would give an exhibition of physical exercises. This would complete the programme as far as the military was concerned. In the course of discussion it was suggested that the Prince should also visit St. .Mary's Church, and returned soldiers in the public hospital. 'i he Borough Council will consider the suggestions made by General Melville, and it is expected they will be embraced in the programrao when it is drawn up, (RACES AT 'OIIEISTCHURCH.
