EVERYBODY'S. .BESSIE LOVE IN "THE DAWN OF UNDERSTANDING." Bessie Love, the diminutive Vitagriiph s. appears in her first starring "vehicle for that firm, "The Dawn of Understanding," at Everybody's Theatre tonight. The story is hy that master writer, Bret Harte, and is an adaptation of his 'Judgment of Bolinas Plains." It might have been written for little Bessie Love, as it so admirably suits her style in every wav. She is that rare combination of tragedienne and comedienne, and this story calls for versatility along both lines. There is plenty of humor mingled with the pathos, and not a slack moment exists in the film from Btart to finish. The supporting programme is well arranged and includes another episode of "The Lightning Raider," a two-reel comedy, and the "Gaumnot Graphic." • \ THE PEOPLE'S. LAST NIGHT OP "SHERIFF'S SON." "The Sheriff's Son," screening finally to-night at the People's, shows Charles Ray in what is easily his greatest play "to date. Eor punch and excitement it is a long time since such a picture as "The Sheriff's Son" was produced. In "The Sheriff's Son" Ray is seen as the timid soil of a brave sheriff, who was killed by rustlers. Alarmed by the scenes of bloodshed and terror that he has witnessed in his infancy and which later haunt his mind, lie adopts the profession of the law. Unique circumstances demand tlmt he overcome the fear with which lie is dogged. After a struggle he does, and in the most thrilling situation imaginable, turns the tallies on a gang of desperadoes. Rav never acted the. part of a coward with more realism and sincerity than in "The Sheriff's .Son." It is a remarkable picture. Another big Mack Bennett comedy is also on the bill. May. Allison, in 'The Island of Intrigue." is the new feature for to-mor-row_ It is a thrilling story of abduction and escape, and one which will rank high with the screen achievements.
