SEA CAPTAIN DROWNED.

WELL-KNOWN COASTAL SKIPPER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wangauui, March 2. Captain Charles Thompson, of the steamer Invereargill, was drowned early this morning. When returning to the ship at one o'clock he fell overboard as he was climbing the rail. The mate on deck witnessed the occurrence and roused the crew to assist the skipper, but the ell'orts proved unsuccessful Captain Thompson was a well-known coastal skipper. He was married and his wife resided at Newtown, Wellington. The body of Captain Thompson was recovered this morning'. There was mark on the forehead, evidently caused by a projection on a portion of the ship. The blow probably stunned him, thus accounting for his immediate disappearance.
