NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL. , GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE. The General Purposes Committee of the j New Plymouth Borough Council met last 1 night, there being present:—The Mayor 1 (Mr. .Ta«. Clarke), Crs. F. J. Hill, ,W. F, .Short, W. A. Colli*, A. S. Brooker, ». L, Parkin, A. E. Sykes and V. Griffith*. LIBRARY MATTERS. 's**&£ On the recommendation of the Library Committee, it was decided that, in ,view of the present abnormal state of Amerl- | can exchange, the Library sub-committee be asked to report on the American books ' ! and magazines in circulation, in order to J purchase, in future, only indispenaible ' books. j Mr. A. R. Eyder was placed on the '• Library sub-committee. Messrs. W. H. Skinner, F. J. Davis and the librarian were requested to frjune estimates of receipts and expenditure for the Carnegie Institute for the next ' year. DESTROYING RATS. On the proposal of the Borough law \ spector, it was decided to take action with a view to exterminating rats within the Borough. The inspector was authorised to expend up to £lO on the understanding that the business people and residents co-operated in the effort.
