When the field wero sent away Jutland and Ermine were prominent, and this pair showed the way out of the straight. But. going around the back srretch Demagogue moved up, followed by Esthonla. The pair were first Into the straight from a bunched field. Demagogue too!: the lead a few hundred yards from the post and had to Ik> hard ridden to win by half a length from Esthonla, with Rose Queen close up third. Kinsem, winner on (he first day, was ■ the public choice for the Mataravvn Hack race. Pnrorangl was also well supported from the right quarter, while the New Plymouth, owned and trained Qulnlro, with Grav in the saddle was a quiet paddcek tip. The latter, however, was never sighted on the journ.ev, but may see n better day in the near future. Kinsem was always well placed and ran home an easy winner without being estended br a length and a half from Egmont Park, who'defeated Dainty Step for second place bv n long neck, with Philomela close, up fourth." Onldstream, who has come back to form as n hurdler was made a firm favorite for the Fwdell Handicap hurdle race, and the Issue was never seriously In doubt, for after allowing Ratana and Explorer to make play up to the half mile post, the goldlng went, to the front and was never afterwards troubled, oventually iwlnning very easily by a couple of engths from Explorer. Ratana was another length away in third place. Zola and Army Service fell. R Hunt, rider of the latter received a sprained wrist, while E.
