NEW PLYMOUTH CITIZENS' BAND.
VISIT TO PUNGAREHU. Visits from the New Plymouth Citizens' Band are always eagerly looked forward to by residents along the coast, ...ere the hand recitals have proved vi-ry enjoyable and popular during the past lew' years. Yesterday's trip to I'ungiiivlm was no exception. Favored by line weather the visit proved a very enjoyable one to all concerned. The hand, comprising some 25 members, under Mr. F. W. G. McLcod, L.T-S., and iictk'iiipiinied hy Messrs E. Sole (chairman) aml.lt. B. Cattley (secretary), left New Plymouth about 9.30 a.m. Oakura was readied soon after 10 a.m., and a stop was made in fropt of Mr. J. West's residence, where a crowd had assembled, and the band played several marches, and a number of hymns, all of which were greatly appreciated. At the conclusion Captain Mace expressed the thanks of the residents to the band for rendering such an enjoyable programme, and lie hoped that the baud would at an early date be ahle to visit Oakura and give a recital. If possible, the band will accede to the request, and the recital will be given in Captain Mace's grounds- The band were then entertained to morning tea by Mr. and Mrs. J. West. Okato was reached a little later, and a selection was rendered in front of Mr. Meredith's hostel, where the bandsmen Pungarelm was reached at 1.30 p.m. The recital was given in the pleasantly situated Recreation Grounds in the presence if - *~ > attendance, visitors heing present from Opunake and Okato. The band was in good form and the fine programme submitted delighted the audience, who expressed their appreciation bv applause. 4 ' the conclusion Mr. M. Fleming, on behalf of the residents, expressed popreciation of the visit of the baud. Mr. McLeod suitably respondedDuring an interval in the programme the bandsmen were hospitably entertained to afternoon tea by the ladies' committee, comprising Mesdames Layman, Pope, Gvenfell. Matthews, Kirk, Misses Mackay and Fleming (2). Mr. E. Sole thanked the ladies on behalf of the band. Dormer the afternoon about £24 was collected towards the band's fund. About f> o'clock a start was made for home, town bein? reached shortly after 7 pm. A crowd had assembled at Stony River in anticipation of the band playincr a selection, hut owing to the lateness of the hour it was impossible to do so.
