PRICE OF HIDES.
FURTHER ADVANCE PROBABLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 28. The President of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Association, Mr. Mappelbeck, in an interview, said it seemed to him that Mr. Massey, in stating at Auckland that Australian purchases of New Zealand hides were made into boots which undersold the New &aland article in the local market, had not availed himself of all information on the subject. Under the embargo regulations the New Zealand boot, said -Air. Mappelbeck, wat| far ana away J cheaper than the Australian, even in j many cases at the point of manufacture. PS Australian boots were, as stated, cheaper than New Zealand and inferentially is good- Why were the various farmers' co-operative stores in the Dominion atocked with the New Zealand articls? That was done from the point of view of patriotism, since it was knojvn that the farmer, like other people, was looking for the best market for his pro.duco, and at the 6ame time wished vo buy in the best market. The prices outlined by the Auckland tanners would probably he reconsidered after yesterday's sale of hides, and a further adranee announced.
