The following are extracts from a letter written by the Mayor of Taihape to the Wanjramii Education Board, Which had the effect of inducing the Board to agree to proceed with necessary improvements at Taihape District High School:—"The children are returning this week, and some of the old tanks me empty, being leaky beyond repair. The shelter shed must bo erected before the winter comes on. The children who ride to school havfc no place to put their saddles, which are left lying in the prounds. It will be remembered that the Board undertook to do the work at a cost of .€2OO, provided the Taihape Committee Taised the sum of £25, but the offer was turned down by the committee. The Taihape School Committee have utterly failed in what was. expected of them, and have shown themselves quite incapable as a school committee, whatever good qualities they may possess as private citizens. I feel that a responsibility lies with me to that the children are not neglected, and now offer to collect the »um of' £25 asked for by tin Board.'-
