LUSITANIA ROMANCE.
FISHERMAN'S CLAIM FOR SALVING ' DIAMONDS. A romance of the Lusitania, sunk by a U-boat on May 7,1016, has been brought to the attention of the House of Com* mons by Mr. .Teremiah MacVeagh, M.P. He states that a registered parcel addressed to the Postmaster-General, Lov don, and containing four packets of diamonds to the reputed value of £23,000, which were on board the Lusitania at the time of her destruction, were salved from the sea four days afterwards by a fisherman nftmed John Hayes, and forwarded to the Postal authorities. This action, lie says, saved the State heavy payments as compensation, and he asks 'that a substantial reward shall be paid to to* fisherman. To this Mr. Pike Pease, the Assistant-Postmaster-General, replied: "I am aware of the circumstances, but the hon. member seems to have -been misinformed both as regards the value of the Ralved parcels and the risk or peril involved to the salvors. The solicitor to the Post Office wrote to the representative of the salvors in February, but no reply has been received to that communication. Further. representations will be considered"
