THREAT BY RAILWAYMEN TALK OP DIRECT ACTION. Dnnedin, Feb. 2fl. The employees at the Hillside Railway Workshops held a mass meeting at noon to-day, and passed the following resolution:— "That we, the workers in Hillside, having observed the laws of the land, and having stood loyally by the Government in power, demand immediate redress in the matter of the cost of living, preferably by reducing the cost of commodities, or otherwise from time to time increasing the rate of pay according to the purchasing power of" the sovereign. The present inaction of the powers that be is bringing nearei the time when notice must he taken of the fact that direct action is more successful than trying to reason with persons who will not act on logically proved facts.
