FARM AND DAIRY.
DRIED MILK QUESTION. DISCUSSED BY DAIRY FARMERS. Palmerston N., Feb. 24. A well-attended meeting of dairy farmers, called by Mr. H. Mortenson, was addressed by him at considerable length upon the dairying question, more especially from the dried-milk point, of view. Mr. Mortenson expressed himself as thoroughly dissatisfied with the policy of the Levin Co-operative Dairy Company. He charged it with not takinj; the suppliers into its confidence, and with being too apathetic in connection with the production of dried milk and casein. This, he said, had caused a good deal of dissatisfaction and unrest amongst the dairy-men. He pointed out that a very large firm interesteof in milk products were willing to establish a dual factory for the manufacture of butter and cheese if 730 cows were guaranteed. Beyond supplying the milk, dairy farmers would have no responsibility, and the. factory could be got ready for the coming season. In the course of a discussion which ensued, Mr. >S. A. Broadhelt, chairman of the Levin Company, made a spirited defence of the policy of the concern, and stated that it was the intention to reorganise it on the lines suggested by Mr. Mortenson, and that the directors had been engaged on the scheme for some considerable time. The meeting adjourned without anything definite being done, it being decided to watch for further developments before taking any action.
