SHANTUNG SETTLEMENT. FINANCIAL AID TO CHINA. By Telecraph.—rress Assn—CopyrijU' Jir . Received Feb. 20, 8 p.m. Washington, Feb. 25. According to a despatch from Tokio, Viscount Uchida (Minister of Foreign Affairs), speaking in the House of Peers, said that despite China's boycott of Japanese goods, Japan was ready, in conjunction with other Powers, to extend to China the financial aid iwlispensible for the maintenance of the Chinese Government. "We are solicitous to see an early completion of the great work of the unification of China," he added. "The Russian question '. i a matter of great moment to Japan. The Japanese Government has consistently stood for a policy of international accord in Siberia. The Japanese Government is taking the necesary steps to return the leased territory in' Shantung to China, and to work the railroad thereon as a joint enterprise between China and Japan."—Aus.-N.Z.
