The Heroic put. lip a fine record of service in Home waters, and thousrh frequently in the danger zone, she was fortunate enough to win thro'tiirh, and established to her credit the ))iunc of heins one of the best tuns round the United Kingdom.
Known as the Epic .under the Whito Ensisn, the Heroic was the means of calving the American liner Luke Harris, which was driven ashore in a giile on the Cornwall const, and later, while cruising olf the Uritish coast, she rescued, under exciting conditions, the survivors of the American torpedo-boat destroyer Jacob Jones, the first United States man-of-war that the Germans .sank.
On her vovngc out to Australia the Herolo towed h (floating crane from Sarus to Bombay—a distance of 0000 miles. She encountered heavy weather at different stages of the passage, but. she proved her excellent sea-going qualities throughout.
