Gisborne, Last Nights A public meeting was held this evening to recognise the Parliamentary services of Sir James Carroll. The Mayor presided over a representative attend" ance. The Mayor explained that the mow ment was not political, but simply a . public tribute to a great statesman, j Speakers referred in eulogistic term* to Sir James Carroll's work in Parliament, with particular reference to quelling Maori disturbances, and urged that scheme should be evolved in which his friends from Wairoa to the East Cap# could take part. It was decided ft presentation should be made to Sir Jamet Carroll and Lady Carroll, and a large and influential committee was set up tq carry out the proposal.
