MARINE ENGINEERS. GENERAL RESUMPTION EXPECTED. By Trfsjraph.—Pre3s As3n.—Copyright, Received Feb. 24, 9.30 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 24. Though the engineers may resume in a few days, a illass meeting of seamen resolved not to man the ships until the Federal Goverunent removes the section of the War Precautions Act preventing a seaman boarding ships to obtain work. Similarly, they refuse to man any ship until the accommodation is satisfactorily altered. It is officially stated the strike position is unchanged. Until the Queensland representative readies Melbourne it is unlikely anything will be done towards a settlement, but on the other hand Melbourne reports there will be a general resumption by the engineers to-morrow. —AU3.-N.Z. THE STEWARDS' DISPUTE. AN AGREEMENT REACHED. Received Feb. 25, 12.20 a.m. Sydney, Feb. 24. The owners have agreed to pay the ■stewards a minimum wage of £l3 a month for a ten-hour day, with 2s an hour overtime, including Sundays and holidays—Aus.-N'.'Z. Cable Assn. Sydney, Feb. 24. The marine stewards have decided not to resume work until their demands are granted. Meetings of engineers at Brisbane and Adelaide decided to hand the control of thi strike to the executives. Melbourne, Feb. 24. The Federal Government has suspended the coastal provisions of the Navigation Act till the end of June. The Victorian branch of the engineers formally adopted the Shipping Controller's offer and decided to resume work.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable-Assn.
