A SORDID STORY.
CHARGE AGAINST TWO MEN. Auckland, Feb. 23. William Baden Powell Ayres (19) and John E. Kamsey (44) were charged in the Auckland Police Court Willi having had unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl of fifteen years, the former at Devonport and the latter at Xgaruawhia. The girl stated that in November she and a girl of eighteen were intimate with Ayres and another man, and they subsequently went to the Waikato and met both men again at Hamilton, i,nd again at Te Aroha. There illicit relations again occurred between Ayres and herself, and also between herself and tne accused Ramsey,--who was introduced to her under the name of Murray. At Te Aroha the latter made a proposal that the two girls should go south with hira and earn money by an immoral life. They were subsequently arrested by the police, at the instance of their parents, and brought back to Auckland. This story was corroborated by the girl of eighteen, and evidence was given by persons who saw the girls in company with Ayres at various times and places mentioned by the girls. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, were committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed in cacii case in one surety of £l5O.
