CANTERBURY PRODUCE. Chrlstchurch, Feb. 20. .there Is a eootl deal of activity In the oat market and increasing quantities are being offered by merchants. A grade flartons are bringing up to 4s Od at country stations, and an occasional line at twopence more, but merchants are not. disposed to operate at anything In excess of 4s 6d. Algerians are still in Arm demand to fill North Island requirements at up to 53 ."d at country stations. Barley is selling well and as crops have been good practically throughout rtho province growers are securing u satisfactory return. Up to 8s 3d has been paid at country stations. Perennial ryo has firmed still further and a particularly good lino of heavy send was sold at 7s at country stations. The current value is, however, somewhat less than this, Only anmll lots of potatoes for the retail trade are coming in. Forward business for March and April delivery is on the baals of £5 10s per ton at country stations. The chaff market Is stall firm at recent quotations. N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT. On Friday, 13th Inst., we held our usual monthly sale In our Tarata yards, when-we hail a good yftfdlng of sheep and cattle. All the sheep and. most of. tho cattle were quitted at satisfactory values. On Tuesday we held our usual fortnightly sals in our Stratford yards. We had a small yarding, bidding was dull and some lines did not reach reserves. On Monday wo held our Kohuratnh! sale In conjunction with Newton King, oi entries consisting mostly of sheep. Bidi...ig was brisk and a good clearance was effected at satisfactory values. The market throughout had a steady tone, there being a strong local inquiry for lambs and breeding ewes,, outside buyers accounting for most of the store and forward ewes and wetli«s. Prices on the whole compared favorably with tlio Taranakl market. A few pens of cattle came forward, all of which sold.
