TARANAKI'S BISLEY.
D. HOOTS (HAWERA) WIKS THE BELT, HAWERA WINS THE TEAMSMATCH. The Tamnaki Rifle Association's annual meeting was brought to a conclusion on Saturday under fine weather conditions. The wind that was blowing made shooting exceedingly difficult for competitors, especially at the long range, and the scores registered were, on the whole, low. The shooting this year wa3 not got off as expeditiously as on previous occasions, with the result that it was found necessary to curtail the programme somewhat, the New Plymouth match 10 shots at 900 and 1000 yards being reduced to 7 shots, whilst the teams' match was reduced to one range instead of three. Despite this it was nearly dark before the programme was completed. Rfm. D. Roots, of Hawera, who was Taranaki champion in 1012, and is an exNow Zealand champion, won the champion belt with a comfortable margin of 12 points. Rfm. E. Ballinger was runner up. Rfm. S. J. King, of Opaki, the present New Zealand champion, was eighth in the aggregate. The teams' match fell to Hawera, who shot for the first time at the Association meeting. Mr. V. J Hill, ns secretary, did good work, the prize list being issued promptly and correctly. Capt. Hartnell, Lieut. Andrew, V.C., and Mr. C. T. Mills did splendid work on the range and in the trench. Capt. Dallinger, group officer, was present during the day and rendered valuable assistance. The catering was again in the capable hands'of Mesdames F. J. Hill, W. Oliver, L. Honeyfield, and Miss D. Sole, and the Association is under a debt to these ladies for their catering work voluntarily given. Capt. Hartnell, at the conclusion of the shoot, in expressing regret for the delay, stated that it was partly due to the weather conditions, and also to the fact that the targets were not in the order they would have liked. It was hoped that text year they would be in first class order. He also suggested that they should endeavor to get in markers from the county clubs, as it was difficult to get twelve expert markers from town. He was sorry that the weather had not been better for shooting, but it was the fortune of war, and they would accept it like the good sports they were. Col. Weston then presented the principal prizes, the recipients being cheered. A similar compliment was paid to the secretary. Detailed results arc as follow:
