KORTH AND SOUTH AGREEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Now fork. Feb. 20. The Washington correspondent of the New York Times reports that it is expected a state of virtual agreement will bo reached between North and JSc.iiih China. The final conference for the (settlement of difficulties will probably be held at Shanghai shortly. It is understood that both the Peking and Canton Parliaments will dissolve, and a new Parliament, which will sit at Peking, will be elected and the Vice-Presidency of China filled by the election of a southern leader. The demobilisation of a large part of the forces will also be carried out.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Ason. . (PROTEST ABOUT SHANTUNG. Shanghai, Feb. 20. Thousands participated in a demonstration calling on the Government to refuse to enter into the Shantung negotiations with Japan and requesting the Government to refer the subject to the League of Nations. The demonstration, which lasted more than two days, took the form of a moss meeting, with the closing of Chinese stores, and parades*— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
