THE PRINCE.

LEAVES ON MARCH 9. VISITS COMING OUT. By Telegraph.—Prcs3 Assn.—Copyright, Received Feb. 20, 10.10 p.m. London, Feb. 20. H.M.S. Renown, carrying the Prince of Wales, is departing from Portsmouth on March i)th. She will arrive at Barbadoes, March 10; Colon, March 23; Panama, March 24; Ban Diego, March 31; Honolulu, April 0; Fiji, April 13; and Auckland, April 17.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

ANOTHER RACE MEETING. A DAY'S SPORT AT AUCKLAND. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Following upon a communication from the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Auckland Racing Club has decided to hold a one day race meeting on April lflth on the occasion of the visit of the Prince of Wales. The programme will comprise sis events, and the stakes will, total £4OOO. The Prince of Wales' Cup, of 1A miles, will be worth £I3OO, and the Royal' Steeplechase £OOO. NO 'i ROTTING MEETING. ONLY TWO DAYS' RACING. Christehurch, Last Night. The Mayor, Dr. Thacker, telegraphed to Sir Francis Bell, Minister for Internal Affairs:—"lt has been announced here that two galloping permits have been granted, but no trotting permits. This surely cannot be correct. Kindly advise; urgent." .Sir Francis Bell replied as follows today:—''Replying to your telegram, special licenses have been offered to the Racing Club at Auckland for one day and another to the Canterbury Jockey Club for one day in order that one special race meeting may be held in each Island»during the Prince's visit. If trotting licenses were also granted, then two afternoons ot the Prince's visit to Christehurch would be occupied by race meetings, which I personally think would be unfortunate. The question as to whether a special license should be granted to the Metropolitan Trotting Club at Christehurch has not been finally decided, and I think there are reasons for, as well as against, the granting of such a special license. One point must he taken as already decided without further question; that is, that a trotting meeting will not be substituted for a race meeting at Christclmreh."

Dr. Thacker contends that the sane thing would have been to have granted a galloping permit to Auckland and a trotting permit to Christehurch, for ChristchUreh could give tne best trotting display in New Zealand.
