The warship Encounter, lying in the ■tream, had a narrow escape from mislip, An artificer by mistake opened a ■valve, and the ship filled till the lower Dooitfs were awp'-h. T t was feared beacninp would be necessary, and all the boata were gof out. but the application of the collision mat luckily enabled the closing of the valve.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable inn
