THE PETROL SHORTAGE.
DAIRYING INDUSTRY AFFECTED. BETTER SUPPLIES SOON. By Telegraph.— Prw Association. ' Wellington, La it Night, The shortage of petrol that is being experienced in New Zealand at the present time is reported to be having serious results in certain dairying districts, where farmers are unable to seoure adequate supplies for their engines driving milking machines. Fishermen hav» complained of a lack of fuel for their motor launches, and other essential industries have felt the pinoh, The Prime Minister, referring to the matter, said the shortage had been accentuated by the sinking of a steamer in the Panama Canal carrying 43,000 cases of petrol for New Zealand. The Government had tried to keep the dairy farmers going and ~a point had been reached now where supplies would have to be cut down as fair as non-essential industries were concerned in order that essential industries might be protected. He did not think the acute shortage would continue for more than a few weeks; perhaps not for more than a fortnight.
