(From Our, Own Correspondent). Feb. ID. Tiie Waitara Seaside and Surf Bathing Society are holding their annual picnic on Thursday, February 26th. A good programme has been formulated, and it should be an inducement to the public to roil up and spend a pleasant day on the beach, This society lias done, and is doing, good work towards popularising the beach. It is intended, when funds permit, to erect a tea kiosk in concrete, which can be converted into a social hall for dances and card parties. The society is negotiating for the services of the new P'vmouth Citizens' Band_ If successful, it will make the outing all the more enjoyable. ,

The Clifton Rowing Club will be represented at the Wanganni Regatta on Saturday next by the following mem-bers:—-W, Spurdie (stroke), P. Feek, L Feek, and K. Lawrence. They are in good fettle, and should make a good showing in whatever they entered for. This crew is the same combination that competed there before the warMr. Frank AmoOre presented a concert programme on Monday evening to a very meagre audience. He certainly deserved a better house as the concert items were really good. Constable La Pouple is indisposed, and was unable to attend the Court proceedings on Wednesday,

The local wool valuations took place on Tuesday last, something like over 400 bales being valued. I expect one more valuation will just about see the. season out.

Owing to incessant rain during the last 48 hours it is needless to say that the river is in high flood. The firewood gatherers will have another busy time during the next week. '
