CASE AGAINST'A UNION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Feb. 19. A case is being heard in the Supreme Court in which a »eam;ui, -Jallies McGregor, claims .11000 damages from the Wellington Seamen's Union on the grounds that plaintiff was wrongfully expelled from the union, which had since prevented him from following his usual occupation. According to counsel, some time in December plaintiff was oh the steamer John, on which was also a young fellow named Simpson. A complaint was made that the last-named was not a member of the union, and plaintiff offered to pay his subscription, but the oil'er was refused. Later plaintiff complained to the assistant-secretary of the union regarding the matter, and the assistant-secretary demanded from M'Gregor the amount of the latter's subscriptions then due. M'Gregor went to the union office, paid the money, and said the assistant-secretary should go about his business in a more sober manner. Next day the executive of the union met and M'Gregor was told to apologise to the acting-secre-tary. He declined, and v.as expelled from the union, but denied receiving the notice of expulsion. It was alleged that at the instance of the union lie was prevented from shipping on various coastal steamers . under the threat that if he was employed the crews would come out.
