Mr. F. V. Fraser, S.M., has been appointed acting assistant public service commissioner—-'Press Association. The Rev. H. 0. Hanby,.vicar of Fairlie, and formerly of New Plymouth, has been appointed vicar of Leeston.
Mrs. Godwin, formerly matron of the Wanganui Collegiate School, died last evening (sars tt telegram from Wanganui). Tlio Rev. Father Moore, who takes charge of St. Joseph's parish, ICUham, in succession to the Rev. Father Arkwright, arrived on Saturday. He was previously in charge of Ohura.—Argus. Mr. C. M. Benzoni,. district railway engineer for. Southland, has been transferred to Wanganui, where lie will take up his duties in about a mouth's time. Mr- J. K. Lowe, of Greymouth, has been appointed to the Southland position.
Mr. P. C. Webb is carrying out his intention to return to the coal mining industry (says the Grey River Argus). Ho has gone to the Cronadun mine to work, and'!this week will don the apparel of the miner once. more.
Mr. C. J. M'Kinnon having resigned his position of associate sub-editor on the staff of The Dominion, his former coworkers ' assembled on Friday, and, through the editor (Mr. C. W. Earle) presented him with a token of their esteem. Mr. M'Kinnon was one of the original members of The Dominion literary staff.
Bishop Sprot't, who is proceeding to England tcjj attend the Lambeth Conference, expects to sail by the Ruapelui early in March. He will be absent from the Dominion for about nine months. His Lordship, Bishop Julius, Bishops Averill (Auckland), and Sedgwick (Waiapti) are also going Home to attend the conference. Rev. C, H. Grant Cowen and Mrs. C4rniit Cowen loftllaweva by train for Auckland yesterday morning, and wore farewelled by a large gathering of parishioners. Hey. Mr. Franklin, diocesan secretary, who will take locum work at St. Mary's for a time, is expected to arrive on Friday. So far' nothing definite is known when Rev Mr. Oil-' lespie, vicar designate, will arrive from England.—StarMessrs Oormley and Hooker left Hawera for Wellington by the express train • yesterday. It 'is understood (states the Star) that a conference of representatives of the various "branches of the Licensed Victuallers' Association is to be held in Wellington this week, and that one of the principal purposes is to discuss what action can be taken to institute reforms view to making "moderates" mora satisfied with the licensing question. General Bramwell Booth, of the Salvation Army, will not now arrive in Wellington until about the middle of June. He was originally expected about April 17th, travelling" to Australasia via the United States. The influenza epidemic in the States, with the dislocation of the world's shipping, has caused him to ,nltcr his plans, and the General will now come out via Suez, arriving at Wellington as above
