A hand-cart on which was a long ladder was pulled across the street and formed an effective barricade. Twenty men produced revolvers. Two officers and nine unarmed soldiers riding on the motor-van obeyed the command, "Hands up," and alighted, while the raidprs searched the van. apparently seeking Mr. Barton, member of the House of Commons, who is undergoing a court-martial. Failing to find Mr. Barton the raiders coolly walked away. Meantime, tram and other traffic was held up. The crowds looked on with amusement. A pedestrian was wounded in the foot by a revolver bullat. During the early m n ""ng there was an attack on the police barracks in an isolated village westward of Castletown, Berehaven, in which a constable was killed .ftnd another wounded, and a gable blown out of the barracks. The details are meagre. A gang of armed men raided a farmer's house near Rosemoon and compelled the farmer to swear that he. would not permit his eon to join the police, force.
