WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent)Waitara, Feb. 13. At the last meeting of the borough Council several ratepayers wrote asking for footpaths to their properties in Cracroft and Strange Streets, having at the present time to make use of the railway line. The Mayor thought a day's work would fix up the matter. Cr. Johnston said that other parts of the town needed first call. The matter was referred to the Works Committee with power ,to act. The Telegraph Department complained of eleetric lines having fallen and coming in contact with the telephone system, thereby damaging the exchange switchboard and asking the Council for the cost.—Relerred to the Electric Light Committee. The wages of 3, Ohlsen, sanitary inspector, were raised. The Works Committee recommended that Mr. 11. Joll be given a refund on different sections amounting to £7 2s. The Committee recommended that the lessees of the pound reserve be allowed £4 compensation per year, so as to enable the Council to re-enter and use one acre of the leased area. This is a long felt want, as the poundage is too email. Complaints were made that the owners of bicycles had reverted to the old habit of riding on footpaths.—The overseer to take action. Mr. C. Perkins, who has been in cnarge of the local Presbyterian Church for some time, has accepted a call from Inglewood, and will be taking up his new abode after March 30th next. Mr. Oould, Home missionary, Warkworth, is succeeding Mr. Perkins.
