ECMO'NT SUMMER MEETING. THE CONCLUDING DAY. . • RECORD TOTALISATOR INVEST- ' ' " ' MENTS. . TAIAMAI WJXS THE BIG RACE. jtaeing Club's summer wteh was concluded yesterday, successful in the history of ' Favored by fine weather, there was a very large attendance, the gate takings showing an increase over those of the second day last year. Speculation w,is -again very brisk, all Taranaki iotali«£ftor records being easily beaten.

Racing was again decidedly interesting. The fields were large and the finishes close and exciting. The open six furlong race was won comfortably by the Auckland horse, ' Flying Handicap the previous day. "Tterreversri- oHorm was not popular the, public, and a portion of the crowd gave vent to their feelings, "by hooting as the horse returned to the bird-cage. Mr. P. \V. Scally, owner 'of lodged a protest regarding the inconsistent running of Lord Kenilworth, but the stewards, after full inquiries, considered the evidence was not sufficient to warrant their taking action. Taiamai won the Atkinson Memorial Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, in convincing fashion, her time, '2.7, being easily a record for the race. The previous best was Bertrada's 2.8J in 1915. The withdrawal of Surveyor and Silv.or. Link from the Hawera Stakes robbed the race of a considerable amount of interest. Hymestra scored from a field ;of: seven.

The totalisator staff had a very busy time. The sum of £47,36 ft was passed through the machine, as compared with £32,520 for the- second day last year, an increase of £14,543. This established a record for Taranaki for a day's investments. Tlie sum of £7626, which was invested on the last race, establishes a record for any one race in Taraniiki. During the two days, £89,346 was invested, as compared with £65,514 10s for the two days last February—an increase of £22,831 10s. The public yesterday proved fairly good judges, four favorites, three second favorites, and one third favorite passing the post first. As on the first day, everything passed oil smoothly. Mr. C. O'Connor got his fields away splendidly, and Mr. ,T. Cameron gave goneral satisfaction with his decisions. The last race was about threequarters of an hour late in starting. In addition to the enquiry into the Lord Kenilworth incident, a meeting of the stewards was held, at which Mr. 1). .J. Goodwin was fined £!> for not notifying the secretary that Bgmont Park and Empyrean were to be bracketed in the Inaha Hack Handicap. •The Hawera Citizens' Band, under Conductor E. H. Gould, again rendered an enjoyable programme of music. The results of the races are as follow:
