Meantime the military guard was withdrawn. The raiders took up positions on various parts of the quays, while a party boarded the dr.ifter from a. small boat, surprising and binding the watchmen. The raiders were all acquainted with explosives and selected f>n*y the finished product. The police and military "have not succeeded in tracing the gelignite. Seventy Sinn Feiners, who had been arrested, were removed from the Cork gaol under a strong military guard, including armoured cars, placed on war vessels at Queenstown, and taken to an English nnrt.
