After strenuous efforts to straighten out the tangle which is tying up the Treaty, the Senate finally voted to recommit it to the Foreign Relations Committee, with instructions that the Committee should report the Treaty out with the reservations of Senator H. C. Lodge (Leader'.of the Republicans), Senator G. M. Hitchcock (Leader of tlie Democrats) at first refused to permit the Treaty to retain Senator Lodge's reservations even in committee, but finally lie consented.

It is understood Senator Lodge 'will offer a modification of his reservations, while the Republican mild reservationists will attempt to obtain changes in Senator' Lodge's reservation regarding Article Ten in order to assure Senator Hitchcock's support,—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

-RATIFICATION WANTED. MEMORIAL TO THE PRESIDENT. Received Feb. 11, 1.45 am. Washington, Feb. 10. Twenty-six, national organisations of various, kinds, representing a membership of fifty millions, addressed a memorial to President Wilson and the Senate urging that tlie reservations to the Trcity should he quickly cast into final form and the Treaty ratified.
