THE RHODES SHIELD. NEW PLYMOUTH SECOND. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The annual swimming competition of the Post end Telegraph Department for the Rhodes Khleld took place in wet weather. Results:— 50 Yards— C. Atkinson (Christchurch) 1, I>. Ward (Christchurch) 2, N. Winter (Netf Plymouth) 3. Won easily. 100 Yards.—Atkinson 1. Winter 2, Llttls (Wellington) 3. Won by. six yards. . . 220 Yards.—C. Atkinson (Christchurch) 1, N. Winter (New Plymouth) 2, S. Hall (Wellington) 3. Won by twenty yards. Time, 2mln. 46 2-ssees. 200 Yards" Belay Race.—Wellington (O'Connor, Reld, Gray, Little) 1, Christchurch (Barnes, Fabian, Ward, Atkinson) 2. New Plymouth (Baker. Martin, Person, Winter) :i. Won all the way by three yards. Time, 2 mln. I2sec. Points for the Shield were: ChrWchurch 11, New Plymouth 8, Wellington 7. Christchurch thus retains the trophy.
NELSON SHIELD COMPETITION. Christchurch, Last Night. At a special meeting of the Dominion Council of the Royal Life Saving Society, held to consider a protest from tho Hawke's Bay centre referring to the Nelson Shield competition at Auckland, It was decided that the Nelson Shield Dominion surf championship be proceeded with and the fullest latitude be allowed to officials as to the methods us3d, whether old or revised; also that owing to misunderstandings entries are oxtended to the evening of the 14th with the secretary for the Auckland Centre. Officials were appointed as follows:—Referee, Mr. A. E. D. BUhop; judges, Mr. Slmmonds (Hawke's Bay) and Mr. Chris' Hansen (North Taranakl).
