THE EGMONT MEETING.

NOTES BY "MOTUROA," Tlie Egmont Racing Club's summer meeting takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, and judging by the very numerous acceptances (published yesterday) the gathering should be a splendid one. In fact, the chief problem that Is likely to trouble the Club Is the question of accommodation. There has been a largo influx of visitors, most of whom "did" the Taranakl meeting last week, and a fair sprinkling of new arrivals from Auckland, Wellington. Wanganul and other parts. Hotel and boarding-house accommodation appears to be booked up, li-.t (cuts have been erected In places, and no doubt tho crowd expected will find shelter somewhere. The course, when seen on Saturday by the Nawa' special reporter, was In perfect racing condition. Tho sward Is beautifully green, and the raised portions are firmly fettled and fit to stand any racing. The caretaker, Mr. A. Morse, was busy cutting the grass on the outside of the course proper In order to give trainers facilities for galloping their horses thereon. The inside of tho track was to have been cut yesterday. The lawns and flower beds are In splendid order, and a large tent Is being erected to meet with the overflow anticipated from the tea kiosk. The totallsator has been enlarged, a new tee being udded which provides a dozen extra windows. Dustin's, Ltd., are making annple provision for the crowds expected. The HaweTa tracks bore a Tery busy, appearance on Saturday morning, and your correspondent gleaned from the caretaker that about 97 gallopers and nearly 30 trotters are regularly exercised on the splendid tracks provided. The addition of visiting trainers and horses has Increased the bustle considerably. Lord Kenllworth. and Taiamai have reached Hawera, and both look very At. The acceptances for the opening day are good all round. A dozen have been paid up for In the Cup, including Client, KUmoon, Dusky Eve, Marqueteur, Bonnetter and Moutoa Ivanova, all of which are fancied by tfceir connections. Marqueteur appears to bo In most demand with double bettors. The nine engaged In the Plying Handicap nre a good lot, and all have admirers. Possibly Walinatao and Slmonldes will take a lot of beating. Very large fields are carded for the minor events. The Ohawe Hurdles promises to draw some fine horses, notably Movement, Zola, Explorer and Master Moutoa, and the public may find It difficult to decide between tho quartette. Santorinl, Flying Master, Fisher, Amberlnc, Bonnetter and Pretty Bobby nre recent winners engaged in the remaining races. A small but select Held may line up for the Egmont Stakes, and a meeting between Acre and Silver Link, not to mention other good w.fa. horses engaged, will he worth going a long way to witness. Fred Tllley's team at Hawera will include Acre, Client, Tame Fox and Endure.
