Replying to Lord Haklane's opinion that the Liberal Party is passing, and its future lies with Labor, Mr. Asquith is reported to have replied: "What nonsense. The Liberal Party was never so vigorous since the war ended." Lady Bonham Carter continues to bo one of her father's best assets. She told a women's meeting that without Liberalism they would be between "the Coalition devil and the Labor deep sea."— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. OPENING OF PARLIAMENT. FORECAST OF THE KING'S SPEECH. Received Feb. 9, 9.50 p.m. t London, Feb. 0. The Prince of Wales accompanies Their Majesties to the opening of Parliament on the 10th inst. The King's Speech emphasises the importance of the financial problem; also the Irish Home Rule Bill, unemployment insurance, the coal policy, and import restrictions. The Daily Express predicts an income of under £250 will be exempt from taxation. The Government will obtain substantial revenue by a sliding scale and the limitation of profits in industries.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
