VAGARIES OF CURRENCY.

GERMANS QUICK TO BENEFIT. A CURIOUS SITUATION. By Teiejrnpti.—frrss Assn.—CopyTljht Received Feb. fl. tl/.O p.m. London, Feb. fi. A curious instance of the effect of the depreciation of Herman currency in international competition occurred in the Channel pilot service. A German cutter appeared at Dungoness without delay after the signature of peace, provided with pilots, to cut the rates, which they were well able to do, in view of the value of foreign currencies. The first vessel piloted was a British vessel. Many American, Japanese, and, Norwegian vess.-ls were also piloted. English pilots are now petitioning the Government to remove the German cutter.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
