The Food Ministry has purchased 3000 tons of Butch butter at a price which has not been disclosed, but it ie believed to be equivalent to 280s per ewt. c.i.f. (2b 6d per lb), London. It is understood that the Dutchmen accepted a lower price than that cabled on November 27, as they do not want more German paper. INGLEWOOD SALE. The fortnightly sale at the Farmers' Inglewood yards on Wednesday, 4th Inst., was held in splendid summer weather, and, in spite of the counter attraction of the Taranakl Races, was well attended by cattlemen, and the yards were filled with stock. Both buyers and sellers meant business. There was very little delay from the word "go," and the greater number of lots offered were placed with new owners. Prices throughout were satisfactory, and it was interesting to compare the prices of the two special breeds, of Which so much has betn said lately, the old favorite Jersey and the Frieelan, when they came into competition for the public's favor. As is shown below, the former still holds first place In this district with most of the buyers. Prices realised were: For Jersey heifer weaners £4 to £5, IWesian ditto. £2 10s, 2%-year Jersey grade heifers (r.w.b.) £ll 10s, Frleslan £ll, 20-month Frlesians £7 3s. Of course these are not purebreds, but naimed for the predominating strain shown. Prices for other lines were \ 18 to 20-month steers £3 7s 6d to £4 16s, 18-month'empty heifers £4 15s, store cows £4 10s to £B, fat cows £ll 10s to £l3 10s, bulls from £8 to £23. The sheep also sold well up to late rattt, 2-tooth ewes realising 275, good unouthed forward ewes 25s 7d, 2 to 4-tooth wethers 325, woolly lambs (a good line) up to 20s, lambs (cull) 8s 6d to 10s 6d. The sale generally showed the keen demand still maintained for in-calf heifers, young Jersey heifers, and bulls.
