Five engineers on the steamer WyaJH dra were sentenced to imprisonment for refusing to raise steam and proceed from Newcastle to Melbourne. Sydney, Feb. i. • Burns, Philp and Co. have announced j that one steamer was dispatched direct from the Islands to England, and others art being chartered for the Island and Eastern trade. It is now likely that the whole of the steamers of the Burps, Philp Island line will not again be pus into commission. Received Feb. 8, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, Feb. 8. The executive of the Marine Engineers' Institute, in order to prove that the ser-i vices can stand the increases claimed, has decided to offer to purchase the Burn% Philp feet at its book value.— Cable Assn.
